Arrival Thursday, departure Monday. You will be accommodated in a 4* hotel in a major marine, a short boat trip away from Trieste. You have access to a gym, a large pool, beaches, a few meters away from the venetian Muggia village.
Transfer from the airport.
Check in a meeting with ‘your local friend’. In the afternoon, we will visit the Beethoven museum, a fascinating collection of 11.000 items linked to the great composer that had close ties to Trieste. Visit to the Muggia Castle. Thereafter you are free for a walk in Muggia. Dinner in the hotel.
After breakfast, we will go with the ‘Green Dolphin’ ferry to Trieste. There are around 34 dolphins living in the bay of Trieste – Grado. The guide will tell you the story of how Trieste, having been made a free port by the Austrian Hungarian Emperor, which it still is, grew into a multi-ethnic cosmopolitan dynamic city. You will visit the historic cafes of ‘the Vienna at the sea’, have lunch in a buffet restaurant that the New York Times found it worth to write a page about. And a tasting of the typical local and mid-European cakes. In the afternoon, a visit to a coffee manufacturer and a course in coffee tasting and making. For the dinner, you are free to choose among the more than 700 locals in or close to Trieste. We will of course guide you in your choice. Return by ferry to Muggia and the hotel.
After breakfast, a visit to and guided walk in the canyon valley that the river Rosandra carved out between Trieste and Slovenia. It is part of a national park, has a rich plant diversity, numerous caves, cliffs used for climbing. The valley is part of the Karst geographical region. In the summer, it is refreshing to dive into the river. Lunch will be in the lowest ‘refugio’ or mountain inn in Italy. Thereafter we will visit a nearby olive oil and wine maker where you can taste the excellent local products. Dinner in a restaurant in Muggia.
Weather permitting, excursion in a boat on the Trieste gulf. Packed lunch from the hotel. In case of adverse weather, we will take you to the Grotta Gigante which in 1995 entered the Guinness Book of Records as the largest visitable cave. It’s major hall is large enough to room St.Peter’s Church in Rome. Lunch in the area. In the afternoon, an e- bike ride and a cooking course.
Time to say “Ciao! A la prossima!” to Trieste. Transfer to the airport.
