Trieste was one of the key cities of the Austrian Hungarian empire, the imperial port. In the area there are today 50-60 cultures and many languages. This tour will take you to some of the central areas in the Mittel-Europa, which today are in close contact. As food and wine is part of the culture, these aspects will be part of your discovery.

Guided tour in Trieste. The guide will tell you the story of how Trieste, having been made a free port by the Emperor, which it still is, grew into a multi-ethnic dynamic city. Trieste is Italy’s most cosmopolitan city today. You will visit the historic cafés and have lunch in a buffet restaurant that the New York Times found it worth to write a page about. And a tasting of the typical local and mid-European cakes. In the afternoon, visit to the Miramare Castle, built by the brother of the Emperor, prior to him becoming king of Mexico. On the way to Udine, we will visit Palmanova, the UNESCO site medieval fortress that looks from above like a snow crystal. Dinner in the hotel.
Guided tour in Udine. You will see some of the masterpieces of Tiepolo the great painter, in the cathedral and the Palazzo Patriarcale. We will tell you about the significant difference in behavior between the Friuli (Udine) people and the Giulia (Trieste) people. Lunch in the city centre. Transfer to Ljubljana through the Vipacca valley. Stop by the Postumia cave. Evening walk in the centre of Ljubljana. Dinner in the hotel.
Guided tour in Ljubljana. Departure to the lake of Bled, containing the only island of Slovenia. Lunch. Departure for and a guided tour in Zagreb. Dinner in the old town. Overnight stay.
Heading back to the sea, you will see Opatja which was the Saint Tropez of Europe towards the end of the 19th century. We continue towards Pula where you see the well preserved roman theatre. Nearby Rovigno is the number one of the tourist attractions in Croatia. Guided walk.
We will visit Porec (3rd tourist destination in Croatia) and the UNESCO site early Byzantine Euphrasius Basilica with its mosaic. Further north, in Slovenia, we will stop in Portoroz and its salt producing ponds, and Pirano the fascinating old Venezian fisherman village, before your last night in Trieste. Dinner in the hotel in Trieste.
Time to say “Ciao! A la prossima!” to Trieste. Transfer to the airport.
